Suzanne Rivera PhD’08 was named president of Macalester College, a liberal arts school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Rivera is currently the vice president for research and technology management at Case Western Reserve University and will begin her position as the 17th president of Macalester College this summer. The UT Dallas graduate made headlines for being the first female and the first Latinx president of the university.
Naveen Jindal School of Management alumna Rashmi Mehta Jain MBA’08 has been named a winner of a 2020 Minority Business Leader Award by the Dallas Business Journal. The honor recognizes individuals in the North Texas business community for their outstanding leadership in business and the community. The chief information officer at Careington International Corp., Jain was promoted to director of IT just six months after joining the company. Jain was honored by the Dallas Business Journal at a luncheon on Feb. 5, along with other 2020 award recipients.
Speech-language pathologist Ana Paula Mumy MA’00, now a clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas, recently used her heritage as a native of Brazil to help translate a film about stuttering into Portuguese for South America’s largest market. Mumy was inspired to work with the film, titled “When I Stutter,” after her son developed a bout of stuttering as a child. The doctoral graduate offered to help documentarian John Gomez translate the film, which was shown last fall in honor of Stuttering Awareness Day.
