On Oct. 20, supporters of the Callier Center for Communication Disorders gathered at the Crow Library in Dallas to celebrate the successful completion of the Callier Family Care Campaign. Launched in 2019, the campaign exceeded its ambitious $15 million goal by raising over $18.5 million to advance lifechanging treatment, training and research in audiology and speech-language pathology.
At the event, Angela Shoup BS’89, MS’92, PhD’94, the Ludwig A. Michael, MD Executive Director of the Callier Center, thanked donors for their commitment to the center’s mission.
“When we launched the Callier Family Care Campaign in 2019, we embarked on a bold journey that was more than a fundraising initiative — it was a call to action,” Shoup said. “A call to ensure that every individual, regardless of circumstance, has access to the life-changing care they deserve. You answered that call with heart, vision and unwavering commitment.”

Over the past six years, the Callier Family Care Campaign inspired an outpouring of generosity from individuals, families and organizations across North Texas. Supporters gave to strengthen every part of Callier’s mission — from pediatric hearing and speech programs to pioneering research in audiology and speech-language science. The campaign’s success also laid the groundwork for new initiatives that will transform research into real-world care, train future clinicians and expand access for patients.
“This campaign was never about numbers,” Shoup said. “It was about people: the child who hears their parent’s voice for the first time, the adult who regains the ability to speak after a stroke and the student who discovers their calling in audiology or speech-language pathology.”
Anne McPherson, Callier Family Care Campaign chair and president of the Foundation for the Callier Center and Communication Disorders, reflected on what the milestone represents for the Callier Center’s community.
“You believed in the power of compassionate care,” McPherson said. “You invested in the future of science and education. Because of your generosity, lives are being transformed through expert treatment. These achievements reflect the collective strength of our donor community.”
UT Dallas President Prabhas V. Moghe recognized the Callier Center as a model for what the University seeks to achieve across all disciplines.

“The universities that thrive in the coming decades will be those that cultivate deep partnerships with business, government and community to generate innovation and shared prosperity,” Moghe said. “The Callier Center is a model for what we are seeking to do. It’s a place where students get hands-on training and where students succeed. It’s a program where we partner with the community, working together to help children and adults with their communication needs.”
Dr. Adam Woods, dean of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences and the Aage and Margareta Møller Distinguished Professor in Behavioral and Brain Sciences, highlighted how the Callier Center embodies UT Dallas’ commitment to be “a place where compassion meets discovery.”
“The Callier Center represents the very best of who we are and where our commitment to improving lives drives everything we do,” Woods said. “Today, as we honor and celebrate those who champion this mission, let us also look forward to the future we are building together — one where every individual has the opportunity to hear, to communicate and to connect.”
The campaign’s conclusion marked both a celebration of accomplishment and a beginning of renewed purpose.
“Tonight, as we celebrate the transformative success of the Callier Family Care Campaign, we also set our sights on a bold and visionary future — one defined by innovation, compassion and a steadfast commitment to meeting the evolving needs of those we serve,” Shoup said.
