In the News: Comets Making Headlines

Comets continue to make waves in their fields and find recognition around the world.

The Dallas Business Journal recognized 20 women “shaping our world through fields including global retail, cybersecurity, sales, marketing and biotech.” Recipients of the 2024 Women in Technology Awards included two UT Dallas alumnae. 

Anabella Acosta MS’09 is head of commercial management for North America, Ericsson and was recognized for helping the company close one of the largest deals in its history worth up to $14 billion. For her effort she was recognized by Ericsson with its Pinnacle Award, the company’s highest employee honor.

Adrienne Guillory BA’06, chief operating officer for Usability Sciences Corporation, was recognized for her efforts leading transformative changes at the company that streamlined operations and restructured the company’s approach to research.  

Abel Flores BA’12, Hilly Holsonback BA’09, MFA’12, Patrick Murphy MA’04, MFA’09, Kit Presley BA’24 with the Therefore Art, Sound and Performance Group were recently featured in The Dallas Morning News for their latest production, Phantoms, performed in May in Dallas. The group is led by UTD Associate Professor Dean Terry, who teaches in the Harry W. Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology.

The production explores the intersection of spiritual experience and artistic experimentation. According to the article, the group is “one of the edgiest theatrical ensembles in town” and “producing startling postmodern works that dissect our media-driven lives.” 

Indian industrialist Naveen Jindal MBA’92 recently won a parliamentary seat during India’s national elections. It is the third time the business and political leader has won a seat in the country’s parliament.

Jindal serves as chairman of Jindal Steel & Power. He is also known for founding and serving as the chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University in India, which he started in honor of his late father. In 2023, Jindal received a Lifetime Achievement Award from UT Dallas.
